My research interest is in communications, encompassing chaos-based digital communications, spread spectrum communications, low-density parity-check codes, physical-layer network coding, cooperative communication networks, wireless sensor networks, wireless communications, and applications of complex-network theories to communications.

I have co-authored three monographs and published over 270 papers. I am also a co-holder of four US and two China patents, and three other pending US/China patents.

In the professional arena, I am serving as an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II (since January 2016) and a guest associate editor of International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos (since January 2010). I served as an associate editor for a number of internationally renowned journals, including IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems II (2004-2005), IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I in (2006-2007), IEEE Circuits and Systems Magazine (2012-2015).

Besides serving in many international conferences as a technical program committee member, organizing committee member, track co-chair, special session organizer/chair, session chair, reviewer, etc., I am serving as the General Co-chair of 2018 International Symposium on Turbo Codes and Iterative Information Processing. I also served as the Chair of the Technical Committee on Nonlinear Circuits and Systems, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society from 2012 to 2013, and the track co-chair of Nonlinear Circuits and Systems, 2010 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. I served as a member in the Radio Spectrum Advisory Committee of the Office of the Telecommunications Authority, Hong Kong Government from 2008 to 2012.
