On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure to invite you to attend the 2004 International Symposium on Intelligent Multimedia, Video and Speech Processing to be held in Hong Kong, October 20-22, 2004, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

This is the second time for the Symposium organized in Hong Kong. This Symposium is jointly organized by the IEEE Hong Kong Chapter of Signal Processing, IEEE Hong Kong Joint Chapter of CAS/COM and the Centre for Multimedia Signal Processing, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. It strives to bring together people in multimedia signal processing, communications, and computing, and to provide an international forum for the reporting of current developments, new ideas and applications in these areas.

We have received about 300 papers from more than 27 countries. Most of the submitted papers were of such good quality that the Technical Program Committee had to devote much time to select papers for the Symposium. About 200 fully reviewed papers will be distributed and presented at 26 regular sessions and 3 special sessions of the Symposium. Tutorials and keynote lectures will be organized and delivered by prominent researchers.

Topics for the regular and special sessions include: Speech Processing, Synthesis, and Recognition; Video Processing, Tracking, and Coding, China Audio-Visual Standard, Perceptual Image/Video Processing Techniques, Biometric Signal Processing and Authentication, Computational Methods for Biometrics, Bioinformatics, and Computer Modeling, Multimedia Digital Rights Management, Multimedia Retrieval and Management, Multimedia Communications, Image Analysis and Recognition, etc.
