26. MAJOR IN ELECTRONIC AND INFORMATION ENGINEERING

Eligibility
Students will be invited in their first year of registration to indicate an irrevocable option of whether to follow a major/minor route or to continue with the single-discipline degree.

Professional Recognition
Students taking major/minor programmes may not satisfy the academic requirements for Corporate Membership of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).

Major in Electronic and Information Engineering
|

(i) |
Programme requirement
To major in EIE and minor in another discipline, a student must take the following subjects:
- 9 first year technical subjects;
- Advanced Engineering Mathematics (EIE300);
- Integrated Project (EIE310);
- Honours Project (EIE410);
- Economics for Engineers (AF2617);
- Engineering Management (ENG306) or Organization and Management (MM302);
- 6 credits for mandatory Chinese language subjects;
- 6 credits for mandatory English language subjects;
- 6 credits for General education subjects;
- 7 EIE electives from the list under Section 26.3(iii);
- 7 subjects from the minor programme.

Requirement for claiming the major award
- Total number of credits for major subjects = 63
- Total number of credits for minor subjects = 21
- Total number of credits for broadening electives
(i.e. Economics for engineers (AF2617) and
Engineering management (ENG306) or
Organization management (MM302) = 6
- Total number of credits for University mandatory subjects = 18
Total number of credits for graduation = 108

Students who minor in Electrical Engineering should not take EE312 Computer systems principles. |
